SWIFT CURRENT, SK – Great Plains College is proud to announce the creation of the Great Plains College Student Pathways Award in partnership with the University of Regina. The new award will support a Great Plains College University program student who will be transferring from Great Plains College to the University of Regina.
Each year, the University of Regina (U of R) will present the $1,500 award to an undergraduate student who is transferring from Great Plains College directly into their second or third year of any faculty at the U of R. The student must also demonstrate their commitment to community involvement through the submission of a 250-word written statement.
“Many of the University program students at Great Plains College choose to start their post-secondary journey with us for the smaller class sizes and the ability to stay closer to home for an extra year or two before transferring into their full degree program at the University of Regina,” said Carrie Voysey, director of communications and development at Great Plains College. “It’s an honour to be a part of these students’ start to post-secondary, and we wanted to find another way to support them in their transition to university. This award seemed like the perfect opportunity to provide that additional support.”
Great Plains College has committed to providing $7,500 toward this award over a five-year period, resulting in an annual scholarship of $1,500. The first Student Pathways Award will be awarded this fall to a current University program student that will be transferring to the U of R in September.
Applications for the Great Plains College Student Pathways Award are now open and current Great Plains College University program students are invited to apply through the U of R’s website at uregina.ca/safa/awards/SAMS/index.html.
Great Plains College is proud to have one of the most competitive scholarship programs in the province. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, more than $2 million has been distributed to students enrolled in full-time student loan-eligible programs since 2009, including $217,600 in the 2020-21 academic year. The college’s scholarship deadline is approaching; individuals must apply to any full-time student loan-eligible program before April 30 to be considered for a $500-$5,000 Entrance Scholarship.
