SWIFT CURRENT, SK – With the recent growth of its international program offerings, Great Plains College was proud to celebrate International Education Week on November 15 with a four-course multicultural lunch for students and staff, which also showcased Indian dance from some of the college’s international students.
“We were thrilled to provide our international students with an opportunity to share their rich cultures with our Canadian students and faculty through two of the main components of any culture – food and dance,” said Kristy Sletten, manager of admissions and international at Great Plains College. “This is one of the key benefits of any international program; the sharing of cultures enriches the lives of all students and faculty involved, reminding us of the value of international education in Canada.”
While Swift Current Campus previously accepted a small number of international students to the Administrative Assistant and Business Certificate programs, the expansion greatly increased the number of spaces for international students and allowed those enrolled in Business to continue and complete the two-year diploma. Thanks to this expansion, the college welcomed 40 new students from Mexico, India, Venezuela and the Philippines to the campus in September.
“Welcoming more international students to our campus has added new learning opportunities to our classrooms, more life to our hallways and more vibrancy to our community,” added Sletten. “We look forward to watching our students’ success here in Canada, and to welcoming more international students in the years to come.”
The college completed its second international recruitment trip this fall, visiting Germany, Switzerland, Vietnam and the Philippines. Plans for a third international recruitment trip early in the spring of 2019 are underway.
Great Plains College partners with M Square Media, an agent management company that acts as a liaison between recruiting agents and post-secondary institutions for its international recruitment efforts.
