SWIFT CURRENT: Stark & Marsh CPA LLP and Great Plains College have signed an agreement that will provide full-time students with more than $10,000 over the next two years.
Their donation of $5,000 per year for 2017-18 and 2018-19 will provide students in the Business, Administrative Assistant and/or University programs with much needed support. The Ministry of Advanced Education matches funds for donations through the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program.
“From a business perspective, the college’s recent commitment to a business diploma program provides recruiting opportunities for our firm and others within the community,” said Elden Moberg, CEO of Stark & Marsh CPA LLP. “It also provides our youth the avenue to stay at home and pursue their education. We’re excited about what the college is doing, are grateful that we have the opportunity to support them in this way, and believe our dollars will be put to good use through the college’s scholarship program.”
The donation will be put toward the Entrance Scholarship Fund which is in place to alleviate financial barriers students may encounter while attaining their post-secondary education. Full-time students that enrol in student loan-eligible programs prior to April 30, 2017, qualify for scholarships that range from $500 to $5,000.
“We are excited to continue our relationship with Stark & Marsh. I see this as a great fit with the recent announcement of our Business diploma program—this will benefit our students and community as a whole,” said David Keast, president & CEO of Great Plains College.
As part of the agreement, Stark & Marsh will have the opportunity to be a guest lecturer in the programs they are supporting. “In addition to the financial contribution, Stark & Marsh is also willing to share expertise in the classroom. It’s just one more way for our students to learn what’s out there and get connected,” says Keast.
Thanks to the generous support of donors throughout the region, Great Plains College has offered approximately $175,750 in Entrance Scholarships for the 2016-17 academic year, with additional awards forthcoming for the winter and spring semesters.
