Welding

Learn on state-of-the-art equipment and one-of-a-kind projects in our Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certified shops, and have the opportunity to take the CWB test before you graduate, it is the only nationally-recognized certification in Canada (at an additional cost). You will receive training in multiple welding processes, operating fabrication equipment, using blueprints, general shop practice and shop safety.

Your Saskatchewan Polytechnic Welding certificate may give you credit for Level 1 and Level 2 apprenticeship training as well as 600 hours of trade time credit provided that you meet the academic and timeline requirements as specified by the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC). You need Level 3 training and enough work hours to write the interprovincial journeyperson exam—your ticket to working as a journeyperson welder anywhere in Canada.

Welders are employed by companies that manufacture structural steel and platework, boilers, heavy machinery, aircraft and ships and other metal products, and by welding contractors and welding shops, or they may be self-employed.

In 2022, the wage estimates for full-time welders and related machine operators in Saskatchewan was $20.00-$41.50 per hour, according to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Immigration and Career Training. Employees may earn more or less depending on their employer, location, size of company, apprenticeship training, experience and hours worked.

Apply as a full-time student before April 30 and you will be automatically considered for a $500–$5,000 Entrance Scholarship.
