SWIFT CURRENT, SK – Great Plains College is proud to announce the distribution of $144,750 in Entrance Scholarships and Awards to 133 students across its six locations.
“Each of this year’s award recipients has worked hard to earn this recognition and and we’re proud to reward that effort through our scholarship program that will help ease the cost of continued education,” said Bryce Martin, donor services coordinator at Great Plains College. “Handing out cheques to these deserving students is always a highlight of the academic year at Great Plains College.”
Highlights from this year’s scholarship and awards distribution include:
- $103,500 distributed to 86 students at the Swift Current Campus
- $36,500 distributed to 38 students at the Warman Campus
- Eight Adult Basic Education Persistence Awards were presented to students in Kindersley, Martensville, Maple Creek and Swift Current.
Additional scholarships will be awarded in January to students beginning their winter-start programs at the Biggar, Kindersley and Swift Current Campuses.
“We can’t thank our donors enough for the generosity they continue to show year after year,” added Martin. “Their dollars go directly to supporting our students in their studies; without that support none of this would be possible.”
The college boasts one of the most competitive scholarship programs among regional colleges in the province. Since 2009, more than $2 million has been distributed to students enrolled in full-time student loan-eligible programs
Applications for 2022-23 Entrance Scholarships are now being accepted. Students are automatically considered for an Entrance Scholarship of $500-$5,000 when they apply to a full-time student loan-eligible program before the April 30, 2022, scholarship deadline (for September-entry programs). Grade 11 students with at least a 70 per cent average are also eligible for an additional Early Entrance Award of $1,000 when they apply to any full-time student loan-eligible program before June 30, 2022.
