Great Plains College will be providing emergency funding assistance to Ukrainian students whose continued education is at risk due to unexpected financial challenges during the war on Ukraine.
Bursaries of $500-$3,000 will be provided for full-time and part-time students that meet the criteria. “Our goal is to provide support and resources for Ukrainian students impacted by the invasion of the Ukraine,” explained director of communication and development Carrie Voysey. “This emergency support will help allow students the opportunity to continue their dreams of pursuing additional education and will help them pay for their tuition and other living expenses as required.”
To be considered for a Ukrainian Student Emergency Relief Bursary, individuals must provide proof of Ukrainian citizenship and have arrived in Canada within the timeframe of September 1, 2020, to September 1, 2022. Individuals must also be enrolled as a 2022-23 student in an eligible full or part-time program at Great Plains College.
The mental and physical health of students who have been directly impacted by the war in Ukraine is also a priority. “All students of the college have access to our mental health and wellness program,” said Voysey. “Depending on the needs of the student, our counselling, resources and lifestyle services are readily available online or face-to-face. Full-time post-secondary students can also utilize our student health and dental plan.”
Additional information regarding the eligibility criteria and applications for the Ukrainian Student Emergency Relief Bursary can be downloaded at www.greatplainscollege.ca/bursary and must be received prior to October 31, 2022.
