Complete the 10 pre-professional courses you need to apply to the University of Saskatchewan (USask) College of Nursing at Great Plains College Swift Current Campus. The four-year USask undergraduate nursing program requires the first year of studies to be a pre-professional year followed by three years of nursing education leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Entrance Requirements
To enrol in courses required in the pre-professional year, students must meet the English language requirements and have completed high school with credit in the following courses:
- English A30 and B30
- Biology 30
- Chemistry 30 (recommended)
- Foundations of Math 30; or Pre-Calculus 30 or Math B30 or Math C30 (recommended)

What You Will Learn
The pre-professional year of study at a post-secondary level provides a solid foundation in university education, preparation for upper-year nursing classes and transferable credits to other health science degrees.
Students will be able to complete the 10 required pre-professional courses at Great Plains College, giving them the credits needed to apply to USask College of Nursing to complete years two, three, and four of their nursing degree at the USask distributed nursing site in Swift Current or other USask nursing sites. Admission to the College of Nursing is competitive and based on your pre-professional course average (60% of your admission score) and your Casper® test (40% of your admission score).
All students interested in pursuing nursing for years 2, 3 and 4 at the Swift Current Campus or other USask Nursing sites must apply for admission to the College of Nursing during the first year of study. Pre-professional courses must be completed by April 30, 2025 if you wish you start year 2 of nursing in September 2025.

Application Process
1. Apply to the University of Saskatchewan College of Arts and Science and select "Great Plains College" as your campus of choice.
2. Once you have received your letter of acceptance from the University of Saskatchewan, you must also register for the Pre-Nursing program at Great Plains College online at greatplainscollege.ca/apply – there is no application fee to do this.
3. Once you have applied to the college, a student adviser at Great Plains College will contact you directly to make an appointment and discuss your academic plan and course schedule.
Scholarship Eligible
Apply as a full-time student before April 30 and you will be automatically considered for a $500–$5,000 Entrance Scholarship.
